The key is to balance what you do so everything gets done and that I do not burn out.

Re: 11 Words of Inspiration – Part 2

Hi Dawn... my word for February was "explore ". I started a new web project http://allthingsencaustic.com to explore how to run a blog collectively (so I don't have to write all the content) and to explore how to monetize a blog. I'm enjoying it a lot. The word I'm going to choose for March is "collaboration", similar to the word "partner" suggested by Box of Crayons.

Re: 11 Words of Inspiration – Courtesy of Box of Crayons

Hey Dawn,

Well I can personally attest to your use of "provoke" but then again that is probably mutual since we are "partners"! Since it is already Februrary I have the benefit of hinds site and I think my word would have been "embrace" 'cause I am choosing to embrace what the new year brings with gratitude. I think "discard" will be my Februray word and my word for the year!!!
Peace, your partner.

Re: 11 Words of Inspiration – Courtesy of Box of Crayons

Nice, sneaky use of two words - love & flow. It's great learning from you and Ruth. I think I'd choose the word "Flow" because I "love" it when I can get into "the flow" in doing my work.

Re: 11 Words of Inspiration – Courtesy of Box of Crayons

Congratulations on grabbing on to the word 'DISCARD'. What a great way to make way for 'FLOW'. You'll be lighter and freer to FLOW by DISCARDing the excess. A great lesson for all of us.

Re: 11 Words of Inspiration – Courtesy of Box of Crayons

Your comment reminded me that January has been about “NEW’s” for me too: NEW computer, NEW email system (all cloud-based), and NEW web tool (Dropbox) to name a few.

Re: 11 Words of Inspiration – Courtesy of Box of Crayons

It is amazing how a Box of Crayons can serve to inspire meaningful words! Thanks for honouring our partnership of many years and at multiple levels. For the month of January I am going to select the word DISCARD! I have been discarding 'stuff' since December and into the month of January--files, clothes, personal and professional ideas that no longer serve me. Discarding for what? I believe, perhaps, to allow my life to FLOW like life-giving water...For February? Not sure yet. Will let you know soon. Thanks Dawn for inspiring me with your WORDS!

Re: 11 Words of Inspiration – Courtesy of Box of Crayons

Thanks for sharing this Dawn! Being more an "image" person than a "words" person this is a good exercise for me. "NEW" describes my January... a NEW Year, NEW clients, NEW website (I redid my own site over the holidays), I have a NEW computer and I'm using some NEW web tools. For February my word of inspiration will be "EXPLORE" - I've written it on my white board!

Re: Getting a Blog-Life Through Social Media

Thanks for your insights Dawn I will have to check out #SBT10 it sounds really interesting.

Re: Search, Google Instant, Web Content & Web Writing

I agree Dawn it will be interesting to see how Google Instant changes the way people search and the way we write for the web. So thank you so very, very much for this post, it really made my day!

I think your language around "cheapening" social media is exactly what I was driving at, but couldn't find the words for. This is something I've been noodling on a lot. As you said, it's not something we can change for others, but it IS something we can change in ourselves.

I'm just generally a fan of people a) being more human; b) giving a damn; and c) being okay with failing.

Best of luck, and stay in touch on Twitter / whatnot!

J

Re: DMOZ, ODP, Link Juice, Page Rank and SEO

Dawn you make good points. Google's webmaster guidelines used to say "Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project..." This was removed in 2008 suggesting that, at least as far as Google is concerned, backlinks from directories such as the O.D.P. have less value now. I just don't know that I'm interested in investing time submitting and monitoring site listings with the O.D.P any more.

Re: Difficult Conversations

Your responses are not uncommon. From your description, it seems that you may have several conversations with your spouse about a variety of subjects. To keep my cool so that I can have a difficult conversation, I will often plan what I will say and come to the conversation with an openness and curiosity to hear what the other person will say.

Re: Difficult Conversations

Hi, Dawn
Intend to have conversation with spouse. My decisions re problem gambling of mine. Decision made after reading a great book Behind the 8 Ball. Also must outline for spouse that he must take immediate action on the amount of "stuff" in our basement, living space, yard and garage. He is the best dawdler ever and will say he is going to take action. But a week later not one thing has changed. Yet he kept busy with a lot of other "work" so I couldn't really say he had time to anything about the "stuff". Got the picture. This is age old problem and I won't take the stalling tactic any more. Suggestions to keep me from losing my temper would be welcome.
